Midnight Oil

The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins illustrates that the wise can become foolish through neglect of their spiritual life. The parable emphasizes the vital role the Holy Spirit plays in our lives. The oil represents the presence of the Holy Spirit. It’s the oil that keeps the fire burning inside of us. It is light of Christ in us. The Holy Spirit is God, not an attribute or function of God. He is the very essence of God. It is mentioned in the parable that the oil is to be purchased. Which means that a price is to be paid to obtain the oil. Jesus Christ paid that price for us.
