Dear People Who Keep Company With God,

I was reading Exodus 15:22–26 where the Lord healed the bitter waters for the children of Israel and I saw more deeply than ever that God has truly made a covenant of healing with His people. The Lord said, “I am the Lord who heals you.” That can literally be translated to, “I am the Lord your Doctor.” The Holy Spirit desires for us to know and receive the benefits of being in relationship with a covenant keeping God.

healing covenant photoPsalm 103:2-3 says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all His benefits:who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases.” When He said, “I am the Lord who heals you,” we’re hearing the heart of the Father saying, “Healing is My children’s bread” (Matt. 15: 22-28). He is placing Himself under an obligation and He didn’t have to do it. He’s committed Himself to us on these terms.

I think when we truly understand the covenant of healing we will not only look to being healed, but we will begin to experience the life of the Healer flowing in us and then through us. This goes far beyond the gift of healing as wonderful as that is.

The covenant of healing transcends what man can do, but at the same time does not rule it out either. In this fallen world, we will always need more than the resources of medical science and technology. We need to know we have the Lord, our Doctor living in us.

I believe it is wrong to think that if you really trust in God, you never use doctors, medicine or natural resources with which God has blessed us. The fact is, since Satan comes to kill and destroy, I think most anything that works against death and destruction does not come from the devil.

It is worth noting that God’s covenant of healing wasn’t revealed during an epidemic, plague or physical affliction. In fact, nobody was even sick. They were out of water. God used that to reveal the root of a lot of illness and disease – bitterness of soul. Medical Science will tell you as much today.

Moses cried unto the Lord and the Lord showed him a tree. We can literally go to Marah today and there are bitter, undrinkable pools of water there. There is no natural explanation for the miracle of the water turning sweet. There is no tree or anything there that could heal the waters. What Moses saw and did was supernatural.

The only thing that can answer our life’s bitterness is for us to see the tree, the cross where the Covenant of Healing was given (Isaiah 53). When we embrace that bloody cross we are embracing the Lord our healer.  We are embracing healing for the sorrows, disappointments and loss we have experienced in this world. We are embracing healing for every known and unknown sickness, plague and disease.

The Bible reveals powerful and new strands of diseases, plagues and sickness will come upon mankind (Rev. 16).  We are already seeing this. According to the CDC in the past 20 years, at least 30 new diseases have emerged, for many of which there is no treatment, cure or vaccine, or the possibility of effective prevention or control.  AIDS, certain strands of bird flu and mad cow disease are a few notable ones.

We have also seen that the uncontrolled use of antibiotics has resulted in increased antibiotic resistance and is seriously threatening drug control strategies against such common diseases as tuberculosis, malaria, cholera, dysentery and pneumonia.

But we do not have to be afraid of any of this because when the Lord revealed Himself as our Healer, He also promised us that none of the disease of Egypt (world) would come upon us if we would submit to and trust His Son.

Many Blessings, BW
