Who We Are as the Bride of Christ

Who We Are as the Bride of Christ

February 10, 2019 - Ryan Meade

Some say the Bride of Christ is the church, some say no, the Bride of Christ is actually the New Jerusalem and some say it’s Israel. There is a strong case that the Church is the Bride of Christ and that we are the Bride of Christ individually. Is the church the Bride of Christ and what does that mean for the churches identity, what does that mean for our identity? What does the Bible say about the Church being the Bride of Christ? Here are some examples: Isaiah 54:5, 62:4-5, Mark 2:19-20, John 3:29-30, 2 Cor. 11:2, Rev. 19:7-8, Rev. 21:2-3 & 9. Christ is the husband of the bride and the Church is the Bride of the New Jerusalem in the future, the corporate church of today and can also apply to us as individuals.

If we are the Bride of Christ, what does that mean for our identity? We’ve gone from servants to friends with Jesus. Jesus said “I no longer call you servants, I call you friends” (Jn. 15:15). We’ve gone past the level of friendship to sons and daughters with an inheritance to a place where the God of the universe that has created everything is our daddy. We get to crawl up into His lap. What is next is that we are the Bride.

What does it mean to be a bride? The Song of Solomon, a love poem between and bride groom and his bride give us a good picture of this. The Song of Solomon is also a story about Christ and the church. Reading it just from the Christ’s perspective you will see what He has to say about you.

Here is what Christs says. He says you’re lovely, radiant, beautiful, and handsome, worthy and you are His bride. He says that you’re His companion that stands out from all the other companions. He wants to be with you. He’s not a far off God. He invites you to come away with Him! He calls you His equal. You are irresistible to God. He’s coming after you!  He doesn’t care what you’ve done wrong. You are royalty.

He has made you for a purpose. If you don’t believe that God has something good for you to do then you need to believe it today as His bride. Today say yes!
